Staff Writer Emilie Scheuerle talked with Kristin Hernandez, one of the owners of Doyle’s Vineyard in Durham, about their wine and Girl Scout cookie pairing event. Inspired by a love of Girl Scout cookies, this unique event has sold out every year.
The Daily Tar Heel: Why do you think this event has been successful in the past?
Kristin Hernandez: It's just such a different event and out of the box. I mean, everyone loves Girl Scout cookies.
DTH: How did you think up this event?
KH: It was just something different I thought up one night when trying to think up unique and new events to do. I was a Girl Scout growing up, so Girl Scouts was something I was already passionate about.
DTH: Can you tell me all the event entails?
KH: We will have some of the Girl Scouts there selling cookies. We will have some vendors there selling food. We have live music. It’s going to be such a beautiful day, so we are going to host it outside in our outdoor tents and have heaters if we need them. People will be able to spend the whole day at the vineyard.
DTH: How has the event grown in the past two years?
KH: The first year was about 40 people. Last year we had about 275 people. This year as of (Wednesday) we have sold 200 tickets.
