Chapel Hill police responded to reports of multiple gunshots fired on Rosemary Street at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday morning.
A witness reported that a total of six shots were fired from a moving gold-colored car at the corner of Pritchard Avenue and W. Rosemary Street and on E. Rosemary Street.
Lt. Milton Durham said no one was injured, and police do not know who fired the shots.
Justin Snyder, a UNC sophomore who lives on E. Rosemary Street, was in an Uber on his way home when he heard loud popping noises.
“I see one guy dart off, and it’s really dark outside so I can’t see everything, but I can tell some stuff is happening,” Snyder said. “Then my Uber driver said, ‘Get down now.’ So I just went down in my seat, and we spun around and drove off.”
Snyder later returned to the scene of the shooting and said he saw seven to eight police cars lining the street beginning outside of Country Fried Duck.
Durham said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
