Your guide to concerts in Chapel Hill and Carrboro this November

A new month means new concerts. The Daily Tar Heel is bring you a guide to all the happenings around town.

Yelle-Local 506

French dance-pop band, Yelle, will be performing at Local 506 in Chapel Hill on Nov. 3. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. Tickets range from $18 to $20.

The band was founded in 2005 and released their first official single, “Je Veux Te Voir,” in 2006. “Pop Up,” their first album, debuted in 2007 and largely contributed to their international success. 

Author & Punisher-Local 506

The one-man doom metal band Author & Punisher will be performing at Local 506 with metal band Roseclouds at 9 p.m on Nov. 4. Ticket prices range from $12 to $15. Tristan Shone, the man behind Author & Punisher became passionate about sound, design and fabrication working in the machine and metal shops at the University of California, San Diego. He released his first album, The Painted Army, in 2005.

In 2015, Roseclouds was created by Ryan Holbrook and Micah Moses. Their E.P., Godlike, will be released later this year, so now is your chance to catch them early.

Polyphia-Local 506

Instrumental rock band Polyphia will be performing at Cat’s Cradle on Nov. 4. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $17 if pre-ordered and $21 at the door.

Originating in Dallas, Texas, Polyphia is currently composed of members Tim Henson, Scott LePage, Clay Gober and Clay Aeschliman. Their E.P., Inspire, was released in 2013 and their other E.P., The Most Hated, was released in 2017.

Toto -The Carolina Theater

The American rock band responsible for the party banger "Africa" will be playing at The Carolina Theatre on Nov. 5 in Durham at 8:00 p.m.

Forming in 1977, the band is currently composed of Joseph Williams, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Warren Ham, Shem von Schroeck, and Shannon Forrest. Some of their hit singles include “Africa”, “Hold the Line” and “Rossana.”

Well$ performs at Motorco Music Hall Friday evening.


Lyrics Born-Motorco Music Hall

Alternative rapper Lyrics Born, aka Tsutomu "Tom" Shimura, will be performing at Motorco Music Hall in Durham on Nov. 9. Advance tickets are $15 and day-of tickets are $20. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. 

Lyrics Born is also half of the rap group “Latyrx,” in which he works with fellow rapper Lateef the Truthspeaker. 

Harp Ensemble Concert-Person Recital Hall

The UNC Music Department is hosting a Harp Ensemble Concert from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 11 at Person Recital Hall. The cost of admission is free, and the Harp Ensemble is directed by Laura Byrne. 

Esmé Patterson-Local 506

Indie folk musician Esmé Patterson will be performing at Local 506 on Nov. 12. Tickets are $12 and doors open at 8 p.m.

Patterson, formerly a member of the indie band Paper Bird, started her solo career with the release of her first album All Princes, I. 

Dovid Friedlander (violin), Clara Yang (piano), and Peng Li (cello), perform at the Faculty Recital Monday evening in Person Hall. UNC pianist, Yang, along with North Carolina Symphony musicians, Friedlander and Li, performed works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms.


Super Unison- Local 506

Alternative punk rock band Super Unison will be performing at Local 506 on Nov. 13. Tickets range from $8 to $10. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. 

Super Unison hails from Oakland, Calif. and is composed of three members: Meghan O’Neil Pennie, Justin Renninger and Kevin DeFranco. 


The Dirty Nil-Local 506

On Nov. 18, rock and roll band The Dirty Nil will be performing at Local 506. Ticket prices are between $12 and $14 and doors open at 7 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m.
