Basketball is officially back, and so is our team over at Press Coverage. On this week’s edition of the podcast, which coincides with The Daily Tar Heel’s annual basketball preview that was released recently, Keaton Eberly and Tommy Fradenburg sit down with former two-time All-American, 1993 national champion and current Tar Heel Sports Network color commentator Eric Montross in part one of a special two-part episode about North Carolina men’s basketball.
They break down the storylines of the early season, including the impact of the first-year class and which sophomore big man is standing out from the pack as a worthy starter in UNC’s starting lineup. They also dissect the season’s first three games as Montross gives his take on what has changed from last year’s team, what (or who) has impressed him so far, and what needs to improve for the team to make a deep run in March.
Montross also had a strong message to send to the fans who might have prematurely questioned the early season performance from guard Kenny Williams, who opened his senior campaign by missing his first 10 shots of the season during UNC’s first two games, but then quickly responded with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting against Stanford in the home opener at the Smith Center last Monday night.
“Anyone who was worried about Kenny should go stick their head in the sand,” Montross said. “Kenny’s fine.”
Stay tuned for part two of the episode for more exclusive content with the former Tar Heel big man.
