UNC’s male population is about 38 percent. However, thanks to my female-dominated English and education majors, I somehow never have more than two men in any class. Sometimes this makes me sad — after all, aren’t I in college to find a husband? How am I supposed to find a man who can financially support me if I never have the chance to meet men? What am I supposed to do here, learn, build my own career?
I would take an ECON class, maybe enroll in COMP 101, or hang around the hospital to find a med student, but unfortunately I don’t have time. I am always at The Daily Tar Heel instead, working alongside my majority female colleagues.
Sometimes these things make me sad, hopeless even, I mean I only have one year left. Then I get home and the incredible, brilliant women I live with remind me that I don’t need a man. I am reminded that God is a Woman, that we Run the World and that I am proud as anything to be surrounded by other women who want to be educators and journalists.
Thank God I have women and this playlist to hype me up when I get sad.
