The Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man following a common law robbery at a convenience store early Tuesday morning.

Brandon Lamar Wiggins was charged with common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The suspect went into the Circle K on U.S. 70 near St. Mary’s Road in Hillsborough. He asked the clerk for change, leaping partway over the counter when the clerk opened the register drawer. He grabbed a handful of money from the drawer and then drove off in a white car toward Durham.

The vehicle was located and followed into Durham near Cole Mill Road, according to the press release. The driver pulled over and fled on foot.

The Durham Police Department, including a K9 officer, helped in the search following Wiggins fleeing on foot. The suspect was found hiding nearby.

The white car had been reported stolen in Franklin County.

Wiggins was placed under a $25,000 bond. His next court date is July 1, 2019.
