Got slogan ideas for UNC women's soccer? Now's your chance to pitch them

Women's soccer head coach Anson Dorrance displays the soccer jersey made for him after Sunday's game, which marked his 1000th career victory.

The first half of 2019 has been an exciting time for North Carolina women's soccer.

In March, the University opened its new 4,200 seat Lacrosse and Soccer Stadium, which will host both UNC soccer teams in the fall. Then, on Sunday, five former Tar Heels captured a World Cup as part of the U.S. women's national team.

Now, fans will have a chance to capture that feeling.

North Carolina is collaborating with digital marketing company Creative Allies to launch a fan-driven contest to create the slogan for the upcoming season.

"Fans of all ages can submit their ideas at Creative Allies' website until July 28th," the release said. "The winner will be selected by the Tar Heel Soccer Club with a $250 cash prize and UNC prize pack for the top slogan."

The contest intends to capitalize on the recent "tide of success" of soccer in the Carolinas – North Carolina Football Club is developing a $2 billion soccer stadium in downtown Raleigh – as well as drive revenue for UNC women's soccer.

“Selling out a women’s sporting event is very difficult, but we’ve got some momentum,” head coach Anson Dorrance said in the release. “The attendance at the World Cup and the television viewership created so many positives right now for women’s soccer.  I genuinely feel like women and men’s soccer can be revenue-producing sports at the collegiate level, but only if we start to invest in marketing.”

Last season, the Tar Heels finished 21-4-2 on the year, falling to Florida State in both the ACC Championship Game and the NCAA Championship Game.
