Tuesday, Aug. 20

  • 4 to 6 p.m. — BeAM Open House at Hanes Art Center
Get a tour of available tools and find out about upcoming events at the Be A Maker (BeAM) makerspace. BeAM includes several makerspaces across campus where students can use 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking and sewing tools to create objects for education, research, entrepreneurship and recreation.

Wednesday, Aug. 21

  • 1:30 to 2 p.m. and from 3:30 to 5 p.m. — Guided Tour: Explore the Ackland Art Museum's Collection
Meet in the lobby of the museum for a 30-minute guided tour of the Ackland's collection. Tours in the afternoon will begin every 15 minutes.
  • 4 to 6 p.m. — BeAM Open House at Kenan Science Library
Get a tour of available tools and find out about upcoming events at the Be A Maker (BeAM) makerspace. BeAM includes several makerspaces across campus where students can use 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking and sewing tools to create objects for education, research, entrepreneurship and recreation.

6 to 7:30 p.m.— Paint Your Vision, Create Your Future at Student Union Room 3408

Meet new and returning UNC students while painting. Canvases and other supplies will be provided, but they are limited.
  • 6:30 to 8 p.m. — EROT Wow Poetry Slam at Student Union West Lounge
EROT (Ebony Reader’s Onyx Theatre), a spoken word subgroup of the Black Student Movement, will give students the chance to participate in a slam poetry competition. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about spoken word and create and perform their own work.
  • 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Silence Sam Documentary Screening and Q&A at Student Union Auditorium
Silence Sam, a documentary short produced by School of Media and Journalism students, follows the most recent student-led movement to remove the confederate monument, Silent Sam, from campus. A Q&A with some of the filmmakers and activists of the movement will take place after the screening.

Thursday, Aug. 22

  • 12 to 3 p.m. — Build A Button at Wilson Library 
Make your own button using images from Wilson Library’s collections such as throwback photos of Michael Jordan and the Old Well. If the weather’s nice, the event will be in front of Wilson Library. If it’s raining, this event will be held in the Wilson Library lobby. Water and lemonade will be provided.
  • 3 to 5 p.m. Tar Heel Tie-Dye Bash at Davis Library Courtyard 
Tie-dye a Tar Heel T-shirt and learn more about the Heelraisers Student Giving Council.
  • 4 to 6 p.m. BeAM Open House at Carmichael Residence Hall

  • 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Transfer Night at the Ackland Art Museum
All new transfer students and their families are invited. Food will be provided. Explore the Ackland Art Museum and its various exhibits.
