The Carolina Inn: The best place for a private event in Chapel Hill

Got a big event coming up? Whether it’s a wedding, a luncheon or just a big celebration, the Carolina Inn is the place to have it – according to our readers at the DTH.

Chapel Hill hosts many events throughout the year, but over many of the other venues, Carolina Inn has a size advantage – not to mention the reputation as a town landmark since it was built more than 95 years ago.

Its central location puts it a short walk to any campus building, sports arena and even Franklin Street.

Although not gifted to the University until 1935, the Carolina Inn was built in 1924 by UNC alumnus John Sprunt Hill. The inn served as a place for alumni and other visitors to stay, and also functioned as a town hall meeting place for the state.
