The Commission on Campus Equality and Student Equity will provide the University with recommendations on how to go remote with equity at the forefront — but to do that, the commission is seeking student input, Chairperson Lamar Richards said.
All undergraduate courses will be taught remotely starting Wednesday, UNC announced Monday. The University will also make efforts to de-densify campus housing.
The commission launched a student support and advocacy hub with community forums for students to express any concerns or questions about financial aid, academics and more, while generating conversation.
To post on the forum, students must create an account. The forum will be monitored to ensure it serves as a safe space, and students can post anonymously.
"We use these conversations and this feedback and this criticism to better advocate and hone in on how we are advocating for students," Richards said.
Richards said the commission has been in communication with administration since the commission's creation over the summer.
"It hasn't always led to fruitful results," he said.
But the commission has been asked to provide information and students' concerns as the University proceeds with changes to its original roadmap.
"In the past, we've had to make recommendations after plans have been released," Richards said. "Now we're able to constructively give input during the planning process — and I think that's what advocacy is about."
