Tennessee running back Ty Chandler is transferring to UNC and will join the North Carolina football team this spring as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining, UNC football announced in a press release.
A member of the 2019 Doak Walker Award watch list, Chandler tallied 3,291 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns in 46 games with the Volunteers. Chandler led the Volunteers in rushing with 630 yards in 2018 and 655 yards in the 2019 campaign. Following the 2018 season, he was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year.
The addition of Chandler is significant for a UNC backfield that was going to be missing its All-American tandem of Michael Carter and Javonte Williams, who declared for the 2021 NFL Draft, next year.
Returners D.J. Jones, Josh Henderson, British Brooks and Elijah Green, as well as incoming signees Kamarro Edmonds and Caleb Hood, are expected to round out North Carolina's running back room in the 2021 season.
