UNC Police Officer McCray examines a display left by a vandal at the Campus Y on Jan. 25, 2021. The Campus Y was vandalized sometime during the weekend of Jan. 23-24.

The suspect in the Jan. 24 vandalism of the Campus Y was arrested and charged with both vandalism, which is a misdemeanor, and breaking and entering, which is a felony, Media Relations Manager for UNC Police Kate Maroney said in an email to the DTH Tuesday.

The suspect was released to law enforcement officials after undergoing medical evaluation. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest, according to the UNC spokesperson.

“We are grateful to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for their partnership in making the arrest,”  UNC Police said in a tweet on Tuesday. “UNC Police will remain closely engaged as the suspect works his way through the court process.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
