Carolina Brewery offers curbside pickup and dine-in, as well as no-contact delivery at the Chapel Hill location.
Carolina Brewery in Chapel Hill is the oldest operating craft brewery in the Triangle. Founded in 1995, it’s a classic spot for fans to watch Carolina sports and has accrued recognition in state and national beer competitions.
It’s been recognized by Daily Tar Heel readers as the best brewery in Chapel Hill again in this year’s Carolina’s Finest awards.
Carolina Brewery prides itself on serving fresh, house-made beers and signature burgers, using local ingredients whenever possible.
“There is definitely a quality that goes on that you don’t see anywhere else,” said Kaylee Spangler, a manager at Carolina Brewery.
The brewery is owned by UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus Robert Poitras, whose love of beer started when he went on a trip to Europe as a sophomore in college.
Spangler, who’s been a manager for three years, said the brewery’s history with Chapel Hill is part of what makes it special. Working at Carolina Brewery has shown her that it’s part of the “heartbeat” of Chapel Hill.
“I like that it is owned by a guy who loves Chapel Hill, went to school at UNC, so we just have a long history in the community here,” she said. “It feels like we know everyone in town.”
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Carolina Brewery offered safe options for customers including no-contact delivery, curbside pick-up and socially distanced dine-in.
But Carolina Brewery has products that go beyond its physical locations. The brewery’s beers are available across North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Around Chapel Hill, their beers can be found in stores like Harris Teeter, Food Lion and Wegmans.
“It’s not just about consuming the product here at the brewery,” Spangler said. “It’s about being able to go out to Jordan lake and have a beer or go out to the beach and have a beer.”
