Since opening in 2001, Maple View Ice Cream has become a classic Carolina staple, serving ice cream made with fresh milk from the Maple View Farm. It offers not only delicious ice cream, but beautiful scenic views of the farmland and a unique antique dairy collection.
Robert Nutter, along with his daughter Muffin Nutter Brosig, made it their mission to create a place where people could come to enjoy high-quality fresh, local ice cream. In their ice cream, they use as many local ingredients as possible, including Orange County honey, locally sourced berries and North Carolina pecans.
After starting with 12 flavors, their line has expanded to include hundreds of unique and delicious creations, such as their trademark “Carolina Crunch.” Their stock rotates seasonally, meaning there will always be new and delicious flavors to enjoy.
“I like Maple View because, first of all, the ice cream tastes good,” said Ellen Heffernan, a regularMaple View Ice Cream customer. “It’s creamier and just better than you would get at random chain stores on Franklin Street.”
While enjoying their delicious ice cream, you can also look out to see the beautiful North Carolina sunsets and the farm’s cows from their lawn or front porch. It’s a great place to bring family, friends or even that special someone.
“I feel like the big reason to go there is the atmosphere,” Heffernan said. “It’s very homey sitting on the porch with the rocking chairs, and it’s especially really nice when the sun is setting.”
Additionally, Maple View Ice Cream often hosts events throughout the year, such as fundraisers for the American Cancer Society’s “Ice Cream for a Cure” and Kids Path of Hospice.
After winning many ‘best ice cream awards’ from big names like Food Network, it’s no surprise that Maple View Ice Cream has been dubbed “Carolina’s Finest.” With their delicious ice cream and beautiful local environment, this is definitely a Chapel Hill business worth visiting.
