Its BLT, first introduced in 1992, is a multiple-award-winning cultural touchpoint for the triangle. “They’ve completely mastered the BLT,” said Andrew Lopez, a junior at UNC. Lopez also lauded Merritt’s for its TBG (turkey, bacon and guacamole) sandwich, which he put on par with its famous BLT.
While Merritt’s BLT is a well-renowned sandwich, the attention has never changed how Merritt’s does business, or how it connects with the community. Fully local to Chapel Hill, Merritt’s has become an iconic piece of the town’s food scene, continuing to serve the best sandwich in town year after year.
And, for students like UNC junior Andres Otero, Merritt’s excellence extends past bacon and into other sandwich styles, like BBQ.
“I’m a big fan of Merritt’s BBQ sandwich,” Otero said. “Their sauce is fantastic and their rolls compliment the pork really well. It’s certainly one of the best sandwiches in town.”
Along with its famous BLT and classic BBQ sandwich, Merritt’s serves an array of other mouth-watering creations, including everything from breakfast sandwiches to cheeseburgers. While its menu may grow, one thing to always count on with Merritt’s is fresh, homemade flavors.
