Staying trendy and eco-friendly, DTH readers voted Rumors as the top spot for consignment shopping in Chapel Hill.

Rumors prides itself on providing a place for consumers to explore their fashion sense affordably while avoiding fast fashion stores. Store manager Juliet Magoon said Rumors trains staff to buy pieces that are up-to-date with the current fashion trends. 

Regardless of which type of item you’re shopping for, Rumors welcomes new and returning shoppers with open arms.

“We just really care about our community,” Magoon said. “We care about having a positive impact on our shoppers and providing a very safe space for anyone to come and explore their fashion sense in a place where they're not going to be judged.”

Even during the height of the pandemic, Rumors was still able to provide clothing options to community members by selling clothes online. Its Instagram and website now encourages customers to come into the store and pick up purchased items.

Now, chances are you’ll find a line of eagerly-awaiting shoppers outside of Rumors during store hours. The shop has a 12-person, masked capacity, including staff members. Online shoppers and sellers can pick up or sell clothes outside of the store with a staff member.

Regular customer Sarah-Kent Trollinger said Rumors consistently offers new, fashion-forward options in not just clothing, but also accessories, jewelry and many other niche items. 

“What keeps me coming back to Rumors is the constant variety of products, low cost, and the fun atmosphere,” Trollinger said. “Also, Rumors sells their clothing on social media to be picked up in the store...every time I go to pick up my order, I end up buying more in store.”
