Every day, CarolinasDentist Dr. Josh Zukerman strides into the office in a pair of Carolina Blue Jordans. A UNC graduate for both undergrad and his doctoral in dentistry, Zukerman connects with the UNC community in a special way.
Students visiting his office are undoubtedly asked about UNC athletics, classes and all the newest happenings on campus. Zukerman said he sees it as his duty to make sure students know the experience they are having is special.
“It's really cool to just live vicariously through the current students' experiences,” Dr. Zukerman said. “ I've treated alumni; I’ve treated incoming students; I've treated student-athletes.”
Zukerman said he is proud to be back in the community he was once a part of.
“It's been a dream to come full circle and do what I love, which is dentistry, but also to do it in the community that gave me so much, which is what UNC has always done and will continue to do so,” Zukerman said.
Zukerman’s die-hard Tar Heel attitude has remained constant, but he had other experiences that shaped his dental craft, too. After graduating from UNC with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Zukerman did not head straight into dental school. Instead, he moved to Chicago to play music for years after graduation before deciding to go into dentistry.
Zukerman sees how his experiences before dental school connected to his current occupation.
“There's a lot of artistry involved and creativity involved in dentistry,” Zukerman said. “It's just a really cool field to be creative and express yourself in a unique way while helping other people, and I gravitated towards that.”
Zukerman attributes his creativity and passion for his craft to the community he now serves.
“I never felt like my back was against the wall in terms of my education there,” Zukerman said. “I felt like I had the freedom to explore; tons of different avenues to learn about a lot of different things.”
Zukerman and the CarolinasDentist office explore what’s best in the office every day with the latest dental technology and comfortable patient environment. This includes tools like the CEREC Primescan and Primemill, allowing Dr. Zukerman to complete same day crowns and design new smiles.
“We're able to use this modern technology that is proven to do beautiful work for patients that lasts a long time, and is truly impressive; all with the Carolina vibe,” Zukerman said.
