Five-star recruit Zach Rice, the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country in the class of 2022, committed to North Carolina on Thursday.
Hailing from the Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Va, Rice chose UNC over Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and hometown Virginia.
The No. 9 prospect in the nation, Rice brings the Tar Heels’ recruiting class ranking up to No. 9 in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
Rice joins defensive lineman Travis Shaw as the second five-star recruit in UNC’s 2022 recruiting class, and he also is the fourth five-star recruit landed in head coach Mack Brown’s last two recruiting classes.
Rice is the sixth recruit from Virginia in UNC’s 2022 recruiting class, citing the familiarity with his fellow Virginians as a key factor in his recruitment along with the relationships he built with the UNC coaching staff.
