UNC Junior Defender Maycee Bell (25) prepares to kick the ball during the Tar Heels' game against the Arkansas Razorbacks at Dorrance Field on Sunday, Aug. 22.

North Carolina women’s soccer defender Maycee Bell will miss the rest of the season with a leg injury, the star confirmed on her Instagram on Thursday afternoon.

Bell was a starter in the team’s 3-0 season-opening win against Tennessee last Thursday but did not appear in UNC’s 2-0 victory against UNCW on Sunday.

As the anchor of the Tar Heels’ defense, Bell racked up numerous accolades throughout her career. She was a three-time All-ACC selection and was a second team All-American and logged nearly 1,500 minutes in 2021. In the preseason, Bell was named to the United Soccer Coaches watchlist that highlights the top 35 players in the country.

In her absence, the team will rely on its bevy of young talent to replace her production.
