Chapel Hill Police vehicles standby at the Chapel Hill Police Department on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020.

Chapel Hill Police officers responded to reports of shots fired at Caldwell Street and Mitchell Lane at 5:24 p.m. on Sunday.

The Town of Chapel Hill told The Daily Tar Heel there were no victims at the scene when police arrived. The incident occurred less than a block from Northside Elementary School.

According to the Town, the number of gunshots has not been confirmed. The CHPD is still investigating the incident.

"The suspect or suspects, unknown at this time, could have left in a white Lexus SUV and, noticeably, it had rails, like a luggage rack, on top," Ran Northam, Town of Chapel Hill communications manager, said.

Anyone who has information on the incident should call 911 or contact Orange County's non-emergency line at 919-732-5063.

This is a developing story.
