VooDoo Wings Co. sits on Franklin Street on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024.

“VooDoo Wing Company is a place where you can find a little magic, and A LOT of flavor," reads its website.

The company, which had its Chapel Hill grand opening at 147 E. Franklin St. on Aug. 17, hosts a menu of flavored chicken wings, sauces, sides, sliders, desserts and more.

Carter Hubbard, the director of operations and business services at the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, attended the soft opening on July 31. She said everyone in the restaurant was welcoming and the food was delicious.

Hubbard noted that the fried pickles were a big hit at the table, and she thought the banana pudding for dessert was tasty

According to VooDoo Wing Co. co-founder Micheal Dagley, the company was created in 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada and started franchising around a year and a half ago. Dagley said the company’s locations were very well-received, and Chapel Hill is now their ninth location.

“We are very excited about the location and very excited about our partners”, Dagley said.

The company has a restaurant near The University of Alabama, right in front of the football stadium. They also opened a restaurant near The University of Northern Alabama and have a mobile location near The University of South Carolina. Dagley said that college students love their wings and other menu items.

Sunny Kumar, the owner of the Chapel Hill franchise, said the energy of students and visitors from the triangle area proved a good demographic to inspire the opening of a branch.

“Chapel Hill, on the corporate side, is one of the greatest atmospheres for college basketball in the country and always has been,” Dagley said, “So when corporate was approached with this opportunity from Sunny and his team, it was a very interesting proposition for us.”

Dagley said that the company hosts spirit nights at their franchise locations for local elementary schools, middle schools, scouting groups and high school bands at their franchise locations. He also said  they have helped fraternities and sororities fundraise for their organizations.

Hubbard said the opening of VooDoo Wing Co. provides another good lunch or dinner choice on Franklin Street for community members. She also said that the type of food VooDoo Wing Co. serves appeals to college students and that the restaurant compliments the market within the community.

VooDoo Wing Co. focuses on high-quality ingredients and products, which distinguishes it from other large-scale wing restaurants, Dagley said. He said that customers can taste the difference between VooDoo Wing Co.’s sauces and those of their competitors.

VooDoo Wing Co.’s menu has 17 signature sauces, including buffalo sauce, a signature sauce, spicy peanut butter and jelly sauce and more. All the sauces are made in-store

The general manager of the restaurant in Chapel Hill, Jason Wright, said all the food is fresh and made-to-order. The company also focuses on customer service and Wright said he hopes every customer leaves the restaurant with a smile.

Hubbard said during her visit, the staff was very accommodating and attentive.

“We’re excited to have everyone experience the deliciousness that is VooDoo Wings," Wright said.

VooDoo Wing Co. is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
