Alternative botanicals are gaining popularity in supporting mental, emotional and physical well-being as an alternative or additive to traditional treatments. The Oasis Botanical Lounge & Dispensary in Carrboro offers a variety of unique botanical therapies, ranging from single-serve prepared beverages to take-home products like CBD gummies and functional mushroom blends.
Beverages are prepared with either kava, kratom or mushroom powder and are blended with your choice of chocolate almond milk, fruit juice or water. These powders are also offered in bulk sizes of pre-packaged take-home products to prepare beverages at home. The lounge also offers cold canned kava and kratom seltzers, coffees, teas and adaptogenic beverages, as well as a whole line of Delta THC products such as vapes, smokables and gummies. Owner Robert Roskind describes the Oasis as “a coffee shop for botanicals.”
The Oasis was originally a traditional coffee shop and cafe when it opened in 2013. However, during a trip to Boone, North Carolina in 2017, Roskind’s daughter, Alicia Roskind Dearing, happened upon kratom and kava botanicals. She enjoyed the effects she experienced and they decided to bring it in as an additional alternative to coffee and tea.

The Roskinds quickly began to witness several customers come back to them sharing the calming and relieving experiences that the kratom and kava beverages produced. These beverages can help with relaxation, pain and energy. Due to this impact, the Roskinds decided to focus on botanicals rather than coffee, and this remains the focus of the Oasis today.
Roskind Dearing owns the Oasis alongside her father and husband, James Dearing. She explains, “Over the years as we started to add kratom in, it just became clear that this was something that would benefit the community.”
As the lounge has expanded its offerings of botanicals that support long-term health, balance and brain connectivity, even more customers have expressed their amazement.

Their botanical products offer a wide variety of benefits and experiences such as stress relief, focus, mental clarity, euphoria, energy, ADHD, anxiety and depressoin support, and overall wellness being.
Alongside their high-quality products, the interior of the Oasis is a draw in itself. “It’s stunningly beautiful,” Roskind explains. “It’s like no other place you’ve ever seen.”

In addition to its healing products and tranquil space, the Oasis also hosts evening events meant to “educate, inspire and entrain” the community–completely free to the public. These events include call-and-response music called Kirtan on the first Saturday of every month, as well as weekly stretching and drumming experiences on Sunday evenings.
“These things that we do are to create a more peaceful environment in a rather frantic society,” Roskind says.
