Former head coach of the UNC mens basketball team Roy Williams will endorse democratic candidate Josh Stein for governor. The ad, which will run on Saturday during the 4:00 p.m football game where North Carolina will play Duke, is titled "Fair Shot."
The ad highlights Stein's plan to support public schools and “give every child a fair shot,” including raising teacher pay and expanding vocational programs, according to the press release from the Josh Stein campaign.
"Josh Stein will be a governor who fights to make our public schools the best in the country, raising teacher pay so we can recruit the best and brightest and expanding vocational programs that teach job skills." Williams said in the ad.
Students for Stein chair and President of UNC Young Democrats, Sloan Duvall, said it's not only a great day to be a Tar Heel, but a great day to be on team Stein.
"Roy Williams is someone who really cares about our state, about North Carolina, and shares the same values of decency, loving young people and loving North Carolina as Josh Stein does." she said. "When someone like Roy Williams says Josh Stein will be a great governor — those words carry weight."
She also said she thinks the reason why Williams is getting involved in this is because he knows the stakes in this gubernatorial race are high.
"Josh Stein wants every child to get a fair shot." Williams said in the ad. "He’ll be a great governor."
