Technical Director of ibliblio.org, Crisótbal Palmer, poses for a portrait on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, at Manning Hall. Palmer is currently campaigning as a candidate for the Carbarro Town Council special election.

Cristóbal Palmer has won the special election for Carrboro Town Council by 78 percent as of 8:30 p.m. His opponent, Isaac Woolsey, earned 20 percent of the vote.

This was the sole seat on Carrboro Town Council up for grabs this Election Day. Carrboro Mayor Barbara Foushee held the seat until she won her mayoral election unopposed last year. Palmer went to Carrboro Elementary School and has lived in Carrboro for decades. His mother was elected to the Chapel Hill Town Council in 2013 and served on the council until 2017.

Palmer was endorsed by the INDY, local housing group NEXT and Triangle Blog Blog. Those organizations noted his support for his transportation platform and the Carrboro Connects Plan.  He said that climate change, a rework of the land use management ordinance and transportation equity are all important issues as he approaches his first term.

"I entered this race because this is my community, so it's my work, and I want to get to work," Palmer said.
