N.C. Reps. Allen Buansi, Renée Price win reelection to N.C. House

N.C. Rep. Allen Buansi (D-Orange) and N.C. Rep. Renée Price (D-Caswell, Orange) won reelection to the N.C. House of Representatives. Price will serve in seat 50, while Buansi will serve in seat 56. 

Buansi won 87 percent of the vote, while his Republican opponent Jeffrey Hoagland won 13 percent with 30 percent of precincts reporting. Price ran unopposed. 

House District 56 

Buansi has served in the N.C. House since 2022, and was previously an attorney and deputy director at the UNC Center for Civil Rights. He grew up in Chapel Hill and attended UNC Law School. 

Buansi's platform emphasizes improving public education, environmental justice and accessible and affordable healthcare. He also said his priorities include competitive pay for teachers, supporting renewable energy investments and increasing funding to local public health departments and school infrastructure.

Political activism organizations including EqualityNC, Planned Parenthood, the North Carolina Association of Educators, the Sierra Club and NCAAT in Action endorsed Buansi. 

"I'm really honored to have served district 56 and I'm really excited to serve another two years for our community," Buansi said.

House District 50 

Price has represented House District 50 since 2023. She previously served on the Orange County Board of County Commissioners from 2012 to 2022. She was BOCC vice chair from 2018 to 2020 and chair from 2020 to 2022. 

Price's priorities include protecting the right to vote, criminal justice reform by keeping mental health out of jails and increasing funding for reentry services, advocating for legislation that supports environmental justice, supporting affordable housing and increasing access to healthcare and social services, according to her campaign website. 

Price currently serves on the Appropriations and the Appropriations – Information Technology, Education – Community Colleges, Local Government – Land Use, Planning, and Development and Regulatory Reform House Standing Committees.
