Graig Meyer was reelected to represent the N.C. State Senate District 23.
Meyer won 72.10 percent of the vote over Republican candidate Laura Pichardo, with 50 percent of the precincts reporting
Meyer was the incumbent candidate after being elected to the seat in November 2022. He previously represented N.C. House District 50 in the General Assembly since 2013, and has worked for N.C. public schools for 16 years.
"I'm very proud and honored to represent the Senate District again," Meyer said.
He received endorsements from Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic and Equality North Carolina Action Fund PAC.
Meyer’s top legislative priorities include the climate crisis, public education, access to jobs and healthcare and the legalization of marijuana, according to his campaign website.
In his next term, Meyer said he wants to prioritize Hurricane Helene recovery and build a resilient future that addresses the urgent climate change crisis. He also said he will continue to support public schools and address the needs of rural counties moving forward with the economic development of the state.
He previously sponsored the Marijuana Justice and Reinvestment Act in the state house. The bill would fully legalize marijuana and reinvest money made from cannabis into communities that have been hurt the most from the war on drugs, Meyer previously told The Daily Tar Heel.
He currently serves on multiple committees in the senate, including Appropriations, Appropriations — Information Technology, Education K-12, Regulatory Reform, and Homeland Security, Military and Veterans Affairs. He also serves on the Transportation and State and Local Government committees, among others.
