Sophomore defensive back Caleb Kost (21) misses a tackle during the first half of UNC’s game against Boston College at Alumni Stadium in Boston, Mass. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024. At the half, UNC trailed Boston College 24-7.

BOSTON — The North Carolina football team (6-5, 3-4 ACC) was handled by Boston College (6-5, 3-4 ACC), 41-21, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium, breaking UNC's three game winning streak.

The Tar Heel offense failed to get anything going throughout the game.

Boston College marched down the field on its first possession but had a touchdown called back after offensive pass interference. North Carolina was able to hold the Eagles to a 49-yard field goal — the longest a BC kicker has made since 2021.

A poor return put the Tar Heels at their own 13-yard line to start their first offensive drive of the game. UNC gained just 14 yards before having to punt the ball away. North Carolina had the ball just once in the first quarter, for only three minutes, as Boston College drained the clock.

The Eagles scored just three plays into the second quarter as quarterback Grayson James kept the ball on a read option to find the end zone, giving BC a 10-0 lead.

North Carolina found itself backed up with a first-and-25 after a personal foul penalty was called on sophomore offensive lineman Treyvon Green. Graduate quarterback Jacolby Criswell was able to find graduate tight end John Copenhaver for 24 yards on third down, but Criswell's pass on fourth down was broken up and the Tar Heels turned the ball over on downs.

Three plays later, Boston College found the end zone again with a double reverse that completely caught the Tar Heel defense off guard.

However, UNC responded immediately as sophomore wide receiver Chris Culliver found a wide open gap on the kickoff and took it up the sideline for a 95-yard touchdown to cut the BC lead to 17-7.

On third-and-16 with just over a minute left in the second quarter, Criswell's pass was picked off over the middle. The Eagles found the pay dirt three plays later with a 18-yard reception from Reed Harris, extending BC's lead to 24-7 entering halftime.

North Carolina went three-and-out to open the third quarter after Criswell was sacked on third down. A 52-yard BC return on the punt gave the Eagles great field position, but the Tar Heels were able to hold them to a field goal.

The Eagles drove the ball down to the UNC 4-yard line but were unable to convert as UNC forced a turnover on downs with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, North Carolina's offensive struggles continued as Criswell was sacked again on third down.

After UNC forced a fumble at the 50-yard line, Criswell threw a pick six just six plays later and the Tar Heels continued to dig a deeper hole.

Boston College continued to pile on in the fourth, scoring on an nine play, 64-yard drive to extend the lead to 41-7. First-year running back Davion Gause added two late touchdowns for UNC as the Tar Heels fell 41-21 in Boston.

The Tar Heels end their regular season next Saturday at Kenan Stadium against N.C. State. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
