UNC football running back Omarion Hampton declares for the NFL Draft

UNC football's junior running back Omarion Hampton announced on X that he is declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft on Sunday night. The 2024 Second-Team All-American and 2023 First-Team All-American rushed for 1,660 yards this season and ranks fourth in career rushing yards in program history, totaling 3,565 in three years.

"It has been my dream for as long as I can remember to play in the NFL," Hampton said in a statement on X. "I am grateful for the opportunities that led me here." 

Hampton led the ACC in rushing yards, averaging 138.3 yards per game this season. He also led the conference in rushing attempts, all-purpose yards, touchdowns, attempts per game and yards per game.

He ranked second in the nation in rushing yards, right under Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty, and third in all-purpose yards with 2,033. These all-purpose yards set a new UNC single-season record, overtaking Don McCauley with 2,021. 

Hampton recorded 15 rushing and two receiving touchdowns in 2024. His 36 career rushing touchdowns rank third in program history. 

In his announcement, he did not indicate whether he will play in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Dec. 28.
