The Daily Tar Heel

If Cupid was your stylist, what would he want you to wear? It is almost Valentine's Day and that opens up the opportunity for your outfit to match the aesthetic.

For students, dressing for a theme may be the last thing on their minds with their daily expenses. But I’d say it is a fun way to experiment with style. Since we live in the age of Pinterest inspiration, you can find a plethora of ensembles or clothing pieces to create your looks.

There are also plenty of online websites with affordable clothing to choose from as well as thrift stores in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area. So this guide not only contains pieces you can find locally, but will help you look great for any occasion.

Cafe meet-ups

Outfits for hanging out with friends at cafes like Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews or Tea Hill can be as casual or relaxed as you like. There is nothing like a cozy red turtleneck or cardigan and white slacks — good for the cold and comfortable enough to grab coffee with friends.

To tie your outfit together, try a pair of red ballerina flats. Accessories are always optional, but a red patent leather belt and bow hair clips are a great addition along with a gold necklace. Depending on which thrift store you visit, you can find certain jewelry pieces that stand out. A casual ensemble to love along with your latte!

Ackland Art Museum date

Why shouldn't your attire for visiting the Ackland give Carrie Bradshaw vibes? She is the moment, wherever she goes!

Any white blouse in your closet will do you good, like a linen white blouse or tank top. But red is the stand-out color. For this, you can thrift a dark red midi skirt along with pointed toe stilettos of the same color or lighter, or you can opt for a pair of black thigh-length heeled boots.

If you’re a person who likes wearing pantyhose, definitely try some plain red tights or another pattern of your choice. Of course, any girl needs a handbag, so a clutch of any red color is the way to go.

Dining out on Franklin Street

Eating a nice dinner with your Valentine or friends is a great way to spend the holiday. Is there anything better than looking fabulous for such an occasion?

If you like elegance with a bit of dark edginess, you can wear a black mini-dress with any black boots or heels. But if you desire the traditional Valentine's color scheme, you can find a similar dress in red or white. A plus is burgundy tights if you don't want to wear too much black.

A cute idea if you are spending time with a significant other is to find a gold initial necklace — a nice way to express your love for them. Since roses are a staple flower for Valentine's, try some rose-themed earrings to match a bright red clutch.

Cat’s Cradle night out

One get-together that everyone loves is a night out, whether it's attending a concert or going to a casual spot. So if you’re planning to enjoy live music at Cat’s Cradle, then wear something more fun.

For a blouse, you can wear anything that makes you feel good and comfortable. You can pair a red long-sleeve blouse or crop-top with a choice of denim — either a low-rise mini skirt or a solid midi skirt.

To test out some white, try the white ankle boots. But if you prefer more comfortable footwear, swap them for your favorite pair of sneakers. Don’t forget a handbag! Wine red, of course. Add some jewelry with a pendant necklace and heart earrings of any color scheme.

There are many options available to look your best on Feb. 14. But the most important thing is to wear what makes you feel confident. So play around with whatever you find and celebrate love in all its forms!
