N.C. Supreme Court blocks previous order upholding Griffin's court challenge

The North Carolina Supreme Court temporarily blocked an order from an N.C. appeals court requiring over 60,000 voters to verify their eligibility.

The decision follows a months-long lawsuit between Republican Appeals Court Judge Jefferson Griffin and Democratic State Supreme Court Judge Allison Riggs. Riggs won the November election for a vacant seat on the state supreme court by 734 votes, prompting several recounts and formal legal challenge from Griffin.

Following the appellate court decision last Friday, Riggs' team requested the court's stay on the ruling.

Because of ongoing lawsuits, the N.C. Board of Elections has not certified the results of the election and the court seats remains vacant.
