Ven-Allen Lubin announced on Monday afternoon he is entering his name into the transfer portal after one season with the Tar Heels.
"Before anybody jumps to the wrong conclusion, I am letting everyone know that I am entering the transfer portal with full intent on returning to UNC," the junior forward posted on X. "My action relates to the complexities surrounding the possible approval of the pending NCAA settlement."
After transferring to North Carolina from Vanderbilt, Lubin averaged 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in the 2024-25 season, playing an instrumental role in the later part of the year. He scored in double figures in 11-straight games starting in February. The 6-foot-8 forward shot 68.4 percent from the field and appeared in 37 games, averaging 19.5 minutes.
The NCAA settlement is a federal class-action antitrust lawsuit filed by college athletes against the NCAA as well as the Power Five conferences. The case will end a prohibition on universities directly paying athletes through NIL. The full settlement is still pending final court approval.
