Folk favorites Old Crow Medicine Show to play Memorial Hall in November; Less than 800 available Passion Pit tickets remain

Facebook is good for a lot of things — making ‘friends,’ coordinating social events, inspiring award-winning dramatic films — but what it can sometimes do is send you a lovely wake-up call about something neat happening in your life.

For Canvas, that something neat came today in the form of an invite to an “Evening with Old Crow Medicine Show” in Memorial Hall this November. And seeing as “Wagon Wheel” is probably everyone’s favorite song, it only goes to follow that we here at Canvas spread the good word about this concert.

The Nov. 12 concert, put on by the Carolina Union Activities Board, was officially announced this morning.

Old Crow Medicine Show, a Nashville-based American roots and rock band, is one of Canvas’ favorites, and judging by the spontaneous sing-a-longs of their most famous song in the Pit on sunny afternoons or on Franklin St. late on occasional Saturday nights, there are a lot of people at the University who feel the same way.

Tickets go on sale Monday, Oct. 18 at the Memorial Hall Box Office or online. Following typical ticketing procedures, each valid UNC One Card gets two tickets and each ticket buying can use two different one cards.

Seats are $15 for UNC Students, and general admission sales start Nov. 1 if tickets are still left available.

Canvas got up with CUAB President Adele Ricciardi to find out more.

“We thought it was a fair amount of time after homecoming and a nice American rock & roll companion to the Passion show,” Ricciardi said in an email. She also hinted at several other smaller shows still in the pipeline — more concerts in the Dollar Series? Another killer musical favorite? Something crazy?

Canvas doesn’t know yet, but when we do, we’ll get at you.

In other CUAB concert news, Ricciardi told Canvas that only 760 tickets are left for the Oct. 29 Homecoming Concert, featuring Passion Pit and K.Flay.

What can we say? Canvas is pleased with the fine folks at CUAB. Keep up the musically marvelous work, guys!
