The annual youth poetry competition that started in 2009 has returned to Chapel Hill once again. Five teams from Durham and Chapel Hill high schools will compete in four rounds of poetry in efforts to share their stories with the community.

Ackland Art Museum

Adding to the Mix I: John Wesley’s Boeing (1982) is the museum’s latest exhibition that focuses on the recently acquired work in Boeing (1982). It is part of an informal series that is set to place recent museum acquisitions within the context of pieces that are already a part of the Ackland’s collection.

Wednesday is International Art Museum Day, so head to The Ackland Art Museum between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in order to take part in the free event. This year’s theme “Museum and Memory.”

Thursday at 6 p.m., The Ackland Art Museum will put on a free guided tour of select pieces from their Permanent Collection. The pieces, which span a diverse array of artistic time periods, were reinstalled this week.

Tuesday at noon, the museum will host “Yoga in the Galleries” in an hour-long yoga session. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members.

The photography work documenting the experiences of five teenage cancer patients from a support group at North Carolina Children’s Hospital will be on display this week. The event officially begins with a reception for the survivors Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Join local artists of all types in an event geared towards developing the artistic community within Orange County. May’s topic is titled “How to Present Your… Art,” and will feature guest speaker Joy Javits.
