Trunk show to be held at Julian's this weekend

Lindsey Carter’s dreams of fashion came true.

The 2000 UNC graduate will return to share that dream with Chapel Hill this Saturday.

Carter’s clothing line, Troubadour, will have a trunk show at Julian’s this weekend.

“It feels pretty full circle,” Carter said. “I have to remind myself that when I was at Chapel Hill, it was still a dream.”

Carter’s connection to UNC captured the interest of Alexander Julian, owner of Julian’s.

“Because of the fact she was a Tar Heel and UNC grad, I took an interest in what she was doing,” Julian said.

He said Carter’s style is classic with a modern edge.

“It’s certainly rooted in traditionalism but in a really creative and energetic new way,” he said.

He said the his store aims to sell fashionable clothing that won’t go out of style.

“It’s all geared to please all ages and be purchases that you’ll feel really glad you made the longer you have them.”

And Carter’s designs fulfill that desire, Julian said.

“Her take on things is new, but I think it will be wearable for a long time,” he said.

Julian said Carter’s clothing fits in with the fashion of Chapel Hill.

“It’s not flashy. It’s still classy. It’s Carolina style,” he said.

Lauren Boyce, an intern at Troubadour, has been able to observe both the creative and technical aspects of fashion design.

“It’s still southern but modern in silhouette, and the fabrics are classic,” she said.

Carter said her clothing is a reflection of her life experiences, from growing up in the south to living in New York City as a design student at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

“You’re kind of seeing everything that I’ve learned,” she said.

At Saturday’s trunk show, people will be able to meet Carter and see and buy pieces of her Fall 2011 collection.

They will also get a preview of her Spring 2012 collection and the opportunity to special-order pieces.

“To get the little glimpse into the future about what’s coming in the spring, that’s pretty cool,” said Paige Clark, women’s manager at Julian’s.

Currently, Julian’s does not sell Troubadour clothing, though Clark said she is unsure of future plans.

She said Troubadour’s collections are unique, though, and that she has seen Troubadour in N.Y. shows but not in neighboring boutiques.

“You really get to kind of stand out.”

Check out the trunk show at Julian’s on Franklin St. on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
