Ackland Film Forum: “Bloc Animation Project 2012”

The annual film festival presents a collection of short animated films by amateur and established animators from around the world. This screening at the Varsity is the U.S. premiere, featuring 18 new short films.

The LAB! Theatre: “Diary of a Somebody

This fast-paced dark comedy follows a series of diary entries by British playwright Joe Orton, who was bludgeoned to death in 1967 by his lover. Orton’s diary supposedly holds the reason for his murder, and the play follows this mystery. The show is playing Thursday, Jan. 26 – Saturday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Monday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.

PlayMakers Repertory Company: “The Making of a King: William Shakespeare’s Henry IV & Henry V”

Tonight, PlayMakers premieres the historical plays of Shakespeare in rotating repertory, following Prince Hal through his youth as he becomes one of England’s most powerful monarchs, King Henry V.

Howard Craft Workshops: “Stories in the Air”

Students in this workshop will write their own six minute serials, creating characters, dialogue and plot lines. This is the first of four workshops led by the Stone Center’s artist in residence, Howard Craft.
