Carolina Creates Music presents a concert in Forest Theatre. The lineup features: Of Thieves and Fiends, Campfires and Constellations and No9to5. There will be free food and the delicious Klaussie’s Pizza food truck will be there.

“Near and Far” Opening Reception

Exhibition Dates: Aug. 31- Oct. 21

UNC alum Mike Hoyt studied design and considers himself a southern impressionist. He prefers to pain simple objects with warm colors. Hoyt’s work ranges from still life and figurative paintings to luminous landscapes. Be prepared to see anything from pans on a stove to an abandoned barn. For more info, check here.

“City of Frogs”

Suggested donations: $12 for adults, $8 for children

Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s 13th annual summer show, “City of Frogs,” combines large-scale puppets, live music and audience participation to tell the modern fairytale. The story follows the quest of a wooden boy, freed from his marionette strings in his search for a lost heart.

“Piece Offering”

Exhibit running: Aug. 30 – Oct. 5

See textile work by Allison Smith, Ben Venom, Hollis Chatelain and Marga de Bruijn in this group show, which pushes the boundary between craft and fine art. The show will be in the John and June Allcott Gallery and the Allcott Undergraduate Gallery, both located in Hanes Art Center.

It’s time to get your PlayMakers on. PlayMaker’s 2012-2013 season starts with the first of their 3 PRC2 shows. Playwrights Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare (known for his role on HBO’s “True Blood”) received a 2012 Obie Award for what is sure to be an entertaining and contemporary adaptation of Homer’s epic tale.
