Mixtape Round-Up: Aug, 20 to 26

We, meaning I, at the Mixtape Round-Up apologize for the lack of posts over the past couple weeks, but your wait is over. I'll be back here every Thursday, keeping you current on the latest in free hip hop. Let the Round-Up shall commence, there’s a bunch to catch up on.

Right off the bat let’s go visit Atlanta, the home of the Braves and rapper Donnis. The Diary of an ATL Brave is presented by 10.Deep – who has sponsored tapes by Wale and KiD CuDi – which means it’s going to be excellent. I’m still bumping “Home” constantly, so you know I was ready for this. Guests like Bun B and Colin Munroe and production by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Needles round out the realease and excite me that much more. Donnis is a words man but brings the hype with him. Check it, it’s dope.

What’s Good?: “Ticket to the Moon,”  “I Am Me” Feat. Colin Munroe, “Country Cool” Feat. Bun B (Prod. By J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League

How about an entry of famous people in my phone?

Yeah, I got Donwill’s digits. I was ready to call him too to congratulate him on his new EP, Aight, New Drink. It’s only five tracks, but Rob Viktum produces the whole thing, giving it a nice finish. If you haven’t realized it yet, Donwill is a third of Tanya Morgan, so if you’ve listened to Brooklynatti you know Donwill is talented. This is a great tape for everybody, but especially the okayplayer set.

What’s Good?: “Worth The Wait”  Feat. Phil Nash, Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan) and Lee Sissing, “Barakaran”  Feat. Elucid

Let’s bring it back home to Chapel Hill.

Senior emcee Dekory Rashad released his Who is Dekory Rashad? The Leaky Faucet Mixtape Vol. 1 a couple weeks back and it’s pretty solid. Dekory is admittedly a producer-turned-rapper – he produced every song on the tape – but he doesn’t fail as a lyricist either. It’s a high energy set to listen to. And if you were around Fall Fest late enough, it was also great to watch.

What’s Good?: “Bad Lil’  Mama,” “Let’s Make It Hot (It’s Getting’ Too Cold)”
