Mixtape Round-Up: Sep. 24 to 30

This week shaped up to be a pretty solid release wise.

Wonder protégé Skyzoo dropped his anticipated debut, The Salvation, and Ghostface Killah made a porno with Ghostdini. A couple good mixtapes out there too.

Mick Boogie and the blog Konsole Kingz put together a pretty nice compilation mixtape in anticipation of NBA2K10. The styles on this vary from West Coast revivalists like Nippsey Hussle to NC’s own Joe Scudda. Some of the tracks are reused, namely songs from The Cool Kids and Pac Div, but it’s all good. KK and Boogie really put some music to game to together and put together a tape that can somewhat rival the monster soundtrack NBA Live 10 has assembled.

What’s Good?: “Champs” Feat. Wale, “On Paper” Feat. Small World and Freeway

Another compilation tape, but this time from the good people at the A3C hip-hop festival that’s going down in Atlanta this weekend. The whole premise for this year’s festival is that each of the three days will specifically feature artists from different regions of the country on top of the southern artists that will be on blast everyday. The east coast, represented by Outasight and Truck North among other, starts things off tonight. Midwest emcees Mikkey Halsted and Kidz in the Hall will be performing Friday and U-N-I, Diz Gabran and the west coast are closing the weekend Saturday. All of these artists and more are featured on the tape, which can both catch you up on your game and diversify you record collection.

What’s Good?: “Count to Ten” Feat. Diz Gabran, “Flickin’” Feat. Kidz in the Hall

Switching over to some more original material, producer Lee Bannon breaks out a whole bunch of new joints with some dope emcees spitting bars on top. Bannon’s left coast cohorts like U-N-I are on the project, but the East gets some love too with features from Talib Kwei, Curt@!n$ and Saigon. Real soulful vibe on this whole tape that’s filled with samples and make you reconsider your perception of west coast artists, if you already haven’t.

What’s Good?: “The Return Pt. 2” Feat. U-N-I, Talib Kweli, Zion I and Sha Stimuli, “Break Up” Featuring Saigon
