Mixtape Round-Up: October 2-8

As slow as September proved to be with the utter lack of quality mixtapes, October started out very strong in its first full week.

Basically this is my favorite release of the week because there is a bunch of dope emcees on the same joint. I gave you the NBA2K mixtape last week and this one trumps it something major. B.o.B.(Bobby Ray), Mickey Factz, 88-Keys, Colin Munroe, Pete Rock, Murs, David Banner and UNC’s own GQ (Quentin Thomas) all together is crazy. I didn’t even name everybody either. All these tracks are feature on the game which, was also released on Tuesday, and I’d like to see a line-up of videogame soundtracks, because this one has to be top 5. Did I mention there is song with Matt & Kim featuring De La Soul? No? Well there’s one of those too.

What’s Good?: “Mind Got Blown” Feat. B.o.B. and Mickey Factz, “Ballin’” Feat. Murs, Jay Rock & Kurupt

If you need some more local flavor because GQ wasn’t enough, Justus League’s Chaundon dropped a free mixtape to correlate with the release of his other pay-for-download mixtape Black Dynamite. This half is the free half, but really makes you consider dropping a couple bucks for the compliment. Chaundon did his thing on the Reservoir Dogs tape and is a straight spitter on these. He goes in hard on mostly cover tracks, bodying “Single Ladies,” “Lucifer” and “Who Shot Ya” among others. Support your own, North Carolina. Support your own.

What’s Good?: “Who Shot Ya,” “Broken Heart”

Last of the long write-ups – cause I’m going to throw you a couple extras – I’m going to cheat and use another compilation. This is a Duck Down Records sampler, so you know it’s going to be fire. If you’re not familiar with Duck Down, the label is home to Kidz in the Hall, KRS-One, Buckshot, Oh-No, Skyzoo, Blue Scholars and a gaggle of others that all appear on the mix. There’s some new tracks that have been making rounds such as Kidz’ “Flickin,” and other tracks off artists’ new releases like KRS-One and Buckshot and Skyzoo have. It’s a real nice look though.

What’s Good?: “Hi-808” Blue Scholars, “Get It Done” Skyzoo Feat. Torae [Prod. By DJ Premier]

Quick hits for the rest of the releases this week:

The Noisettes  a capellas are mashed with 808s and Heartbreak by Mick Boogie and Terry Urban for a blend mixtape that sounds real nice.

If you need a nice female emcee, RA the MC dropped Trending Topics.

Blueprint 3 instrumentals are laced in both English and Swedish rhymes by some of Sweden's best emcees on DJ Rooftop's new project.
