Mixtape Round-Up: December 4-10

Tuesday had some pretty big name releases in the hip-hop world, but if you couldn't afford to cop albums for fee then I got some for free.

It's pretty safe to say Kidz in the Hall emcee Naledge is the hardest working rapper in Chicago. The Interwebs is always full of some freestyles let out by the head of the Brainiac Society. On the flip side, we hadn't heard a lot from the duo. The new project with LRG is brand new material and released in anticipation of the Kidz' next album, tentatively scheduled to drop in March. Double-O and Naledge continue to make smooth hip-hop a little outside the mainstream but with a more mature vibe than a lot of records. The group tries some new things on tracks with Marsha AProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 orsius yet sounds like classic Kidz on "Grizzly Man." This is a legit album and should be downloaded.

What's Good?: "Grizzly Man," "We At It Again"

I know there's a lot of you out there that stone out and watch Adult Swim late at night over Pokey Sticks. It's ok, be proud. Adult Swim has again put out a project in the same vein as Dangerdoom that features a bunch of dope remixes of Atlanta rap artists' tracks. Think trap music meets Baltimore club shit. Notable DJs that contribute remixes include El-P, Flying Lotus, Memory Tapes and a bunch of others. Really, I have never enjoyed OJ da Juiceman or Dem Getaway Boyz until this moment. Great moments come courtesy of B.o.B.[Bobby Ray]'s "Satellite," which was already alternative in a sense, now it's just badass.

What's Good?: "Satellite" B.o.B. [Hudson Mohawke Remix], "Hello Miss" Cee-Lo and the Good Time Guys [XXXChange Remix]

9th Wonder associate E. Jones dropped a really, really dope instrumental EP on his Twitter the other day. If you want some beats to vibe on then this is up your alley. If you can't tell by the picture, the nine tracks are ubersmooth and 30 minutes you can jam out too. Guy has chops and you may have heard him recently on Tom Hardy's mixtape or the Le Da Soul from last week.

What's Good?: "The Message," "New Jersey Drive"

Optimus Rhymes, who was featured last week on Rhetoric's release, has a mixtape with producer JSWISS that dropped a little while back. Both are UNC students and I just got the download link, so check them out.
