New Tunes on the Block, Feb. 27

Each week, we’re going to round up new tunes and bring them to you here on the Dive blog. Check out our next installment from James Stramm!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: “Sacrilege”

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s released the single “Sacrilege,” its first material since 2009’s
It’s Blitz. The single will be the first track on Yeah Yeah Yeah’s upcoming album
Mosquito, due out April 16. The song — which features distorted Karen O vocals and
a gospel choir — is an impressive return for the band and hopefully indicative of the
quality of the upcoming album.

David Bowie: “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)”

David Bowie released the second single to his upcoming album The Next Day, his
first record in a decade. “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” is much more uptempo and
hard rock than his first single “Where Are We Now,” but just as successful. The
music video, on the other hand, is slightly underwhelming. Even though the video
features a surprising appearance from Tilda Swinton, its plot seems a bit contrived
and unfocused.

Other tracks:

Joey Bada$$ ft. Chance The Rapper: “Wendy & Becky”

Iron and Wine: “Grace for Saints and Ramblers”

Dirty Projectors: “There’s a Fire”

New album streams:

Rhye, Woman

The Los Angeles based duo Rhye’s debut album Woman is currently streaming on Pitchfork. The band had already released two tracks from the album, “Open” and “The Fall.” Rhye’s sound falls somewhere in between The XX and Beach House, and Woman is definitely worth a listen.

Youth Lagoon, Wondrous Bughouse

Youth Lagoon’s follow up to its debut album The Year of Hibernation is now available to stream on NPR. The fifty minute dream-pop record is an enthralling listen throughout, but tracks “The Pelican Man” and “Dropla” stand out from the rest. Youth Lagoon will be playing at Cat’s Cradle May 4th.

New music videos

Mount Moriah, “Bright Light”

Mount Moriah released its latest album (and first on Merge Records) Miracle Temple yesterday and along with it a video for the album’s single “Bright Light.” It’s an upbeat country-rock song that explodes with energy, much like the rest of the well-crafted album. The video is available on Stereogum.
