Even on a somber, world-weary cut like “Torture,” Charlie Smarts’ flow is razor sharp. Smarts, of the Raleigh rap group Kooley High, released that song’s video today, diving enthusiastically into the tedium that its mood suggests: viewers are treated to his depressed visage lurking in a hotel room, ignoring visitors and staring reflectively at an austere cityscape. A Michael Bay flick it is not.
“Torture” is featured on Smarts’ most recent mixtape, 2011’s LowBottomMe, which you can stream/download for free here.
Kooley High will be playing Cat’s Cradle along with HaLo, Toon & the Real Laww and JSWISS this Friday at 9pm at Local 506, and tickets are still available here.
