Mount Moriah record release show
Cat’s Cradle, Chapel Hill
8 PM door/ 9 PM show, $10/$12
Local darlings Mount Moriah built on their backwoods brooding with their latest release (and first for Merge Records) Miracle Temple. The songs flutter with honest Southern sentiment amidst forlorn country instrumentation. Mac McCaughan of Superchunk is set to open, along with dynamic local act Airstrip.
Saturday April 13
Beach Fossils
Kings, Raleigh
9 PM door/9:30 PM show, $10/$12
Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils came to prominence after the release of their 2010 self-titled debut, a sparse lo-fi piece that paired jangly guitars with front man Dustin Payseur’s washed out vocals. Their latest effort, Clash the Truth, approaches new wave territory with the same barebones demeanor, resulting in a spacious record that owes as much to modern indie-pop as it does to classic post-punk. New local group Body Games opens featuring members of TOW3RS and The Light Pines.
