Name: Lara Szypszak
Year: Senior
Major: Slavic Studies and History
Hometown: Chapel Hill
Lara is wearing: A shirt from a thrift store, shoes from Keds, a coat from Marshalls, a bag she bought off Ebay, a skirt she made and a scarf from a friend.
Lara describes her style as thrifty and “French”. Lara said she loves Anthropologie and shopping at stores in Poland, like Mango. She gets her style inspiration from the style blog The Sartorialist and from old musicians and actresses like Audrey Hepburn. Lara said she keeps her style current by modifying old clothes. She loves that tweed and vintage dresses are coming back in style, but doesn’t like seeing leggings worn as pants around campus.
Many people on campus have a great expression of personal style, but it’s rare to find someone with a unique fashion sense like Lara. Her outfit is colorful and playful with a vintage feel, and her use of contrasting patterns and colors with clothes that come from a variety of sources make her outfit truly one of a kind. Lara’s fashion sense marries past influences with present trends and her ability to create new pieces out of old clothes is both impressive and inspiring.
Lara’s style advice: “Stay classy.”
