To anyone who catches today's TLC reference: I'm single and will probably date you.

Note: This morning, we had a technical problem on our end and only a portion of the newsletter was sent out. We apologize for the inconvenience. Luckily, some people who are much smarter than I am identified the problem, and we're back in business. I hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

I remember my first fundraiser like it was yesterday. It had nothing to do with bread, but it was cold and rainy and 9 p.m. on a February school night. We were standing outside a Greensboro Chick-fil-A (post-homophobic escapade). The task at hand was asking people to donate money to our constitutional speech and debate class — I had a lot of friends in high school, promise — while simultaneously avoiding getting hypothermia or trench foot.

All in all, I received a grand total of, like, $24 — but the real takeaway was the elderly woman who bought me hot chocolate on her way out. It was probably one of the happiest moments of my life, relatively speaking. I really hope that friendly older folks buy all of you beverages of your choosing today. It's one of life's more underrated treasures.

QUICK HITS

  • Our drivers education program is apparently the closest it's ever been to shutting down, according to N.C. Driving School’s director of operations. It's that time in the semester for all of us, drivers ed.
  • The ACLU of North Carolina just joined the likes of rapper Dr. Dre and "Sex and the City" star/American Pharoah fill-in Sarah Jessica Parker in turning 50 years old this year.
  • UNC volleyball beat out Stanford last night, finishing the game 3-0.
  • Student groups raised awareness for suicide prevention yesterday by releasing yellow balloons, a symbol meant to remind people of their childhood and when times were simpler.

IN CAMPUS NEWS

Challah for Hunger started its fifth annual bread-baking fundraiser. Challah for Hunger sells loaves for $4 and raises almost $3,000 for charity every year. If you missed them yesterday, they'll be trying to challah at you again on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

IN TOWN NEWS

Students and residents of Northside came together for a community-building block party yesterday. There was cake, music, games and a bouncy house. It might've rained, but it still sounds a heck of lot more fun than any other party you'd associate with a group that has "Fraternity & Sorority Life" in the title.

IN THE ONLY FAVOR I'LL EVER ASK OF YOU

The Carolina Union Activities Board says there won't be a homecoming concert. The event planners are concerting their efforts to plan Jubilee, and they're taking student requests for performers as we speak. I don't care whom you prefer, so long as you get out there and fulfill your civic duty of voting (for write-in candidate Nicki Minaj).

IN THE BLOGS

In this week's roundup of the 2016 presidential race, we discuss a jubilant dance and an antithesis-of-jubilant Kim Davis. Donald Trump, our readership's favorite pile of discarded hair clippings, still leads the Republican polls. And despite a pretty close Democratic race, ~Bernie~ Sanders begins to edge out Nae Nae Clinton.
