A 12-page paper due in two hours is making me #sincere this morning.

Today's newsletter, if I'm being honest, is a little grim.

I tried several ways to try to make it funny and jovial like most are, but sometimes lighthearted just isn't in the cards. Instead of a relatable anecdote about how sleep deprived I am, how upset I am about threats made to my community, about yesterday's tragedy or anything else relevant to the news, I'd like to just use this space to say this:

Please, all of you, take care of yourselves. This part of the semester — and year, frankly — is really, really difficult. Just know and remember there's zero shame in self-care.

QUICK HITS

  • UNC's Prevention Task Force discussed a survey on sexual and gender-based violence. The data found the most common reason that instances went unreported was because the victims felt their experiences weren't serious enough to report.
  • Professors, students, food truck drivers of Carrboro: Please stop asking Marcus Paige about his hand. Read this instead.
  • Protests at the University of Missouri mirror past efforts from UNC's student body and football team to push for building the Sonja Haynes Stone Center.
  • Following a written death threat in a Duke residence hall, about 150 people met in the Pit yesterday to stand in solidarity with the LGBT community.

IN CAMPUS NEWS

Demitri Allison, a student and football player at Elon University, died after falling from Morrison Residence Hall yesterday. Counseling services are available to students, faculty and staff at 919-966-3658 or during walk-in hours at Counseling and Psychological Services. Please use these resources if you need to — they're here for you.

IN SLEEP NEWS

A guy plans to sleep next to the Old Well for a week to raise awareness for sleep deprivation. He intends to nap it in half-hour intervals every day, which I could easily do straight through for a week, had someone asked me. But the guy's cause is valiant. Sleep deprivation is legitimately linked to the leading causes of death in the U.S.

IN HISTORICAL NEWS

The Old Chapel Hill Cemetery found 475 unmarked graves. Cemetery officials used a machine described loosely as a lawn mower equipped with ground-penetrating radar to discover all the graves. They aren't sure who they belong to, but at least now they can be honored rather than forgotten.

IN STATE NEWS

Much like I fear I will tomorrow, North Carolina received a "D" on Tuesday. The state, however, was being graded on its integrity, calculated through factors like access to public records. And for reference, North Carolina had the 18th highest rating, with only one state receiving a "C" — also probably much like my classmates tomorrow.

IN THE BLOGS

Joe Jonas, was, in fact, Not Here. Though rumors ran abound, the undeniably hottest JoBro was not galavanting down Franklin Street this afternoon. We know because 1) he was doing radio interviews in Raleigh, and 2) we hunted down the people who might've accidentally started the rumor. Snapchat responsibly, everyone.
