I have something else to share this morning. I'm only admitting this because I trust all of you and also because my statute of limitations is up.
While one of our writers ran a half-marathon this weekend, I never completed a single mile run in my four-year tenure in high school. I ran one twice in middle school, and like every valiant, respectable protagonist who accidentally hurts the person he loves most, I vowed I'd never do that to myself again.
So I'd like to say I'm sorry, Coach Wilson. The sick kids who handed out straws to count our laps always gave me the extras. And just for consistency's sake, once I got to UNC, I took the yoga LFIT, which was a 50-minute class consistently ending with 15 minutes of corpse pose.

QUICK HITS
- The UNC fencing team defended our honor this weekend at the Kansas City North American Open. I don't know any other potential puns to make on fencing because I've never seen a fencer, even after trying to Facebook stalk the people in this article.
- Alexandria Johnson, a grad student in the School of Education, recently won the first scholarship from the Dean E. Smith Opening Doors Fund.
- John Gorsuch, director of UNC Student Stores, gives the low-down on why he's retiring. He promises it's not as exciting as why Tom Ross is stepping down.
IN LGBT NEWS
Being trans is really difficult, even within the LGBT community itself. Trans people have to navigate everything from dealing with overt discrimination from peers to waking up early so they can comfortably use bathrooms in their dorms. If you've ever wondered why people care about gender-neutral spaces or if you don't know what cisgender means, read this.
IN MISREADS
If you live in Carrboro's extraterritorial jurisdiction, you don't have representation in town government. If I'm being honest I'm only interested in this story because I am physically incapable of not reading it as Carrboro's "extraterrestrial" jurisdiction. And from what I understand they don't have to pay taxes and can't vote, so they're more or less extraterrestrials anyway.
IN STATE NEWS
Gov. Pat McCrory has requested the national government stop sending Syrian refugees to North Carolina. Pat and his clique of more than a dozen other governors made this decision in the wake of the Paris tragedy, which some have related to an influx of refugees in France. Mayor Kleinschmidt has already taken a stand against the decision, in typical Mark fashion.
IN THE BLOGS
One of our writers ran a half-marathon yesterday, and she came away with some advice because she's both healthy and selfless. But mostly, Kelsey, Brielle and I wanted her to write this because it's the closest thing to exercise any of us will ever get. I think just reading it was the first time I felt the distinct sensation of my own heartbeat in more than four months.
