If you're a small town on the outskirts of Greensboro and Winston-Salem, don't read this.

Growing up outside Greensboro, N.C., my options for hangout spots were… limited. Often, I ventured into Kernersville, a small town with a population of 23,000 and an atmosphere for which the adjective "quaint" could be considered overly generous.

I don't mean to downplay too much. Kernersville is actually kind of cool with its three claims to fame. It has this one intersection with a Starbucks, Cook Out and Taco Bell all in one place. It's the hometown of a contestant on the last cycle of "America's Next Top Model." And it's the launching place of Miss Jenny Fulton's campaign for pickle president of the United States.

QUICK HITS

  • Marcus Paige and the rest of the UNC men's basketball team dragged Pittsburgh 85-64 on Sunday.
  • According to a report from the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness, there are 129 people experiencing homelessness in Chapel Hill.
  • UNC gymnast Kaitlynn Hedelund managed to stick a career-high score on the vault, a season-high score on the uneven bars and career high on the balance beam on Friday.
  • We asked UNC students for their theories on why Donald Trump supporters are more likely to film themselves having sex (according to a Match.com study).

IN POLITICAL NEWS

A North Carolina woman is hitting the campaign trail to be elected "pickle president." Jenny Fulton of Miss Jenny's Pickles announced her bid in Kernersville and is supported by pickle Super PAC "Harris Teeter." As it stands, Fulton runs unopposed.

IN VALENTINE'S CELEBRATION

If you want assurance that everyone else was just as single and miserable as you yesterday, here's your proof. Most people (read: I) forgot it was Valentine's Day or spent their time drinking bubbly alcohol and complaining at brunch. Who knew this whole time I was secretly Sandra Soliman, first-year public policy and economics student.

IN SOCIAL JUSTICE

Raleigh's HKonJ rally returned for the 10th consecutive year this Saturday. Attendees hit on issues of minimum wagevoter rightsimmigration and legal protections against discrimination toward gay and transgender North Carolinians.

IN CAMPUS NEWS

One of our staff writers sat down for a Q&A with a fake Hinton James, the first student to come to UNC. Feb. 12, 1795, marked the first UNC student to arrive on campus. Feb. 15, 2016, marked the first time I think we've ever interviewed a dude in a suit pretending to be a dead historical figure.
