The Daily Grind might be facing an uncertain future with contract renewals, but the cafe has held a special place in my heart since the first day I stepped foot on campus as a 16-year-old at journalism camp. It's solidified my feelings many times since, like last year when a cute barista told me I'd prefer frozen "grasshoppers" with dark chocolate instead of white.
He and The Daily Grind have truly influenced my life. And for that I'll always feel a deeply personal and intimate friendship with 5-foot-9, flaxen-haired barista guy.

IN TOWN NEWS
The owner of Zog's Art Bar is expanding with the opening of a new restaurant. Mandey Brown said "Imbibe" sells items like pizza, meatballs and wine. She plans to market it as a one-stop shop for Danny Nett's consumer habits.
IN COFFEE NEWS
Due to scary adult-sounding circumstances, the future of The Daily Grind might be at risk. The privately run coffee shop was mentioned in UNC's request for proposal for the Student Stores, and with The Daily Grind's contract coming up for renewal, people are worried about all that uncertainty piling up.
IN OUR OPINION
It's ridiculous for our state not to have legal nondiscrimination protections for sexual orientation and gender identity. It's 2016. There's no reason a business owner should be able to fire or deny service to someone for being gay or trans. The same goes for UNC organizations like Greek life. We should expect the best from and for fellow students.
