DTH at a Glance: These are my confessions

I miss high school sometimes. I never thought I would say those words, but I really do. High school: the good ol’ days. Those days when I could be an unproductive member of society without feeling ashamed. Back when I could eat my body’s weight in Doritos in one sitting and feel like a proud mom to my food baby.

Despite the sweet, sweet joys of my lazy pubescence, I can’t help but wonder how some high schoolers manage to be so productive these days. In fact, I’m a little bit jealous. Heck, I’m about to enter my twenties and am still too lazy to shower some days.

So, somebody tell me how Stephen Hart managed to release his first album when he was only in his junior year of high school. However he did it, I need his productivity secrets — midterms are just around the corner.

QUICK HITS

  • The Chapel Hill Film Society is partnering with the DTH’s Swerve. This week, they’re reviewing Clint Eastwood’s “Sully,” a movie about a pilot, an incident involving flock of geese and a dramatic landing straight into the Hudson River.
  • The N.C. Education Lottery collected $38.4 million for education. The increase in funds resulted from the popularity of last year's record-breaking Powerball jackpot, which totaled $1.6 billion.
  • The U.S. and Israel struck the largest military aid deal in American history last week. Now, UNC students are weighing in on what they think.

IN WAITING IN LINE FOR THE AFTERLIFE

Chapel Hill’s four public cemeteries are officially out of space. Even Memorial Cemetery, built in the 1940s to increase Chapel Hill’s cemetery space, has since grown to capacity with more than 3,000 people interred. Now, Chapel Hill residents are being forced to either wait for a spot to open up or seek alternative options outside their hometown as a final resting place.

IN PREPARING FOR EMERGENCIES

There's still no word on what caused the power outage on North Campus yesterday, but here are some emergency protocols from UNC and local officials for the next time something happens.

IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Plans to implement more affordable housing options are coming to Orange County. Under the Board of Commissioner’s proposed Affordable Housing Strategic Plan, 1,000 units of affordable housing will be created, opening doors for Chapel Hill’s commuting workforce, elderly and mentally disabled.

IN RAP MUSIC

Stephen Hart’s rap music career began while he was still in high school. Now, his latest track “Do Your Thing” is available across online music sharing platforms with an accompanying Vevo video on the way. He appeared in an ad for Carolina Bank that aired during the Rio Olympics. And, oh, by the way: he’s still a college student.
